A happy band of travelers in Venice

In early October, 55 History Chicks travelers embarked on a joyful, 10-day romp through Italy! We began in Rome, traveled to Florence, and finally on to Venice. Along the way, we had private tours and delicious meals; we tasted cheese and balsamic, saw art and touched ancient history while we learned so much about the places some of our former subjects had lived.

In this episode, we and our fellow travelers share not only our Italian experiences, but also things that we learned along the way. There’s a lot in this episode! To help illustrate what you’ll hear, we’re sharing some captured moments and links to places we talked about!

Sari enjoyed the Women of Ancient Rome tour at the Colosseum.
Katherine tells us why it’s important to look up, down, and all around. Here is just one mosaic in the Vatican Museum we saw during our private, early morning tour.

We climbed the 463 steep, narrow, and winding steps to the top of the Brunelleschi Dome in Florence so you don’t have to. You’re welcome.

Time Travel With The History Chicks

Here are some links to some of the places we visited, and things talked about in this special episode! None of these are sponsored, we just really liked them.

The restaurant that we (and Kris) loved for cacio e pepe in Rome, is Roma Sparita, and the place we loved for pear pasta in Florence is Trattoria 4 Leoni. and the company we booked our sidequest with Gabriele, was Eating Europe, Florence.

We all got a lot out of visiting Ostia Antica, an archaeological site outside of Rome (Susan liked it better than visiting Pompeii, but don’t tell Pompeii, it might hurt their feelings) and this is the Capuchine Crypt Museum Dana and Kathy went to in Rome.

Balsamic tasting and luncheon at Acetaia Paltrinieri in Moderna. Anyone can visit, and it’s a beautiful venue for weddings and parties (like our luncheon!)

Artemisia Gentileschi was referenced a few times in this episode, we covered her back in 2017. There is a Little Ears warning for SA, but her story is astonishing (and her art, even more so.)

We also announced our two final Field Trips for 2026: The Loire Valley in France, September 5-13, and Italy 2.0, October 4-13. Information and registration coming soon!

Chicago Dinner Cruise! Join us as we cruise the Chicago River, have dinner, drinks, dance, and get to know other History Chicks Listeners (and us, of course!) Registration is now open at Like Minds Travel. We hope to see you there! CHICAGO DINNER CRUISE
