Once a season we let you pick the subject of an upcoming podcast through our Guaranteed Content Poll. The women listed are some of the most requested- we are not expecting a landslide this year (see: Jane Austen…really, who didn’t see that win coming?) so every vote counts. Please vote ONCE between June 5 and 26, 2014.
Thanks for playing!

Friends,
Alice taught us something! All the women we talk about do, but some of the lessons that we learned from Alice have to do with you.
We recorded Alice just as summer vacation began for our children. And it was challenging. Time to work on the podcasts, which we thought was precious before, became even more valuable because it became more rare. Then we encountered a technical issue with the second part of Alice in Wonderland- the chapter-by-chapter discussion of the books. We hope to have that resolved in the next couple of weeks. Add in vacations with our families, ongoing work responsibilities and commitments in other areas- our lives were as wild and nerve-wracking as falling down a rabbit hole, a mad teaparty and swimming in a pool of tears combined.
We had to cut back on something.
It sort of felt like this...
...with a bit of this thrown in. (John Tenniel Illustrations)
This is what we have decided to do: For the remainder of the summer- July and August- we will only be posting one full episode a month. We aren’t able to tell you the exact date right now, but summer is sort of about being spontaneous and enjoying the ride so that’s what we are going to do. We will make sure that we let you know when the next episode is ready.
That will bring us to the end of Season Three. We will not be taking between-season hiatus as we have in the past, and Season Four will begin as fall does, sometime in September.

Welcome back!
At the end of last season ( not that long ago, mere weeks) we never wrapped things up in a nice neat little package. Sorry about that! One of us had family to visit in New England, and the other needed to breathe for a bit without posting deadlines looming. Plus she had a castle to build.
Beckett's requested gift from New England: Coffee Syrup, the official drink of Rhode Island
How one of us has been using the hiatus.
But we got back together in the House of Wood the other day and caught up with our lives. We also finalized plans for the ten full length episodes of Season Three, and left ample room for minicasts sprinkled throughout.
We are VERY excited! We discuss some upcoming plans on this podcast, as well as sharing some stories that happened behind the scenes.
On to Season Three!
We can’t tell you who made the Season Three list, but we can remind you that, as promised, we will begin with a series on the Tudors! Also, as voted upon in our Guaranteed Content Poll, we will discuss the Romanovs at some point during the season. As for the rest of the ladies- keep an eye out for clues that appear here and on all of our social media pages (facebook, twitter, and googleplus) shortly before we post episodes on this website, Itunes, and now, Stitcher!
You are just going to have to trust us, Season Three will be fun and we are thrilled to have you along for the ride!
Thank you (again and again and again) for listening!

We recently received news that we had been nominated for a 2011 People’s Choice Podcast Award in the Education category! How did we react to this news?
First- we were shocked.
And then we looked at the amazing podcasts that share the Education category, and we were stunned.
Then we were delighted.
Our delight stems from the fact that you, our listeners, voted to put us up for this award. THANK YOU!!!
Now we would like to ask for your vote.
We do not think of "chicks" as derogatory. We think we rock our chick-ness!
Please click this link http://podcastawards.com/ to do just that. While you are there, vote for your other favorite podcasts just like we will be doing every day until October 27th when voting ends! The Bowery Boys are facing some Disney competition in the Travel category; and Filmsack is up for best Movie/Film podcast..it’s all very exciting and we are thrilled to be a part of it.
Thank you, again, for listening, offering topic suggestions, dropping us notes of encouragement, and for helping us become nominated for this award.
Now what are we? Busy… researching and preparing for the next time we get to sit down together and chat about some pretty extraordinary women!
Many hearts,
Beckett and Susan

When we started this project we decided that a season would consist of ten full- length episodes, posted approximately two weeks apart, with an option of unlimited mini episodes to allow for spontaneity. We also decided that we would end the season with a series near and dear to our hearts. We thought this would give us some structure, and a goal, as well as the freedom to deviate if we wanted to chat a little bit about someone- or something- related to the subject of the full episode.
We had a plan. And, for the most part, we stuck to it. Marie Antoinette, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Cinderella Abigail Adams, Dolley Madison, Lizzie Borden, Helen Keller, The Mrs. Astor, Gilded Age Heiresses and Jennie Jerome Churchill. We supplemented those episodes with mini-conversations: Abigail Adams and Feminism, Books in the Little House Series, Little Red Riding Hood, Anne Sullivan Macy, The Age of Innocence movie, and Gilded Age Servants.
And we have big plans for next season as well. Oh yes, we do! But we will be taking a short break from posting full length episodes so we can get ready for that season. And have some summer fun with our families that does not include midnight editing and writing sessions, child care juggling to ensure quiet while recording, and rushing to bring back long overdue library books.
But, just as we had a plan for Season One, we have a plan for this hiatus and you will barely know we are gone. We will be putting out some postcard type entries when we stumble across (on purpose) things we know you might like. And we will be monitoring both our website, facebook page, google+ and twitter (although, we admit, we are not the best tweeters out there. We’ll own that and work on it).
This episode is a question and answer grab bag. We posted a call for questions which we answer in this episode, as well as some odds and ends we thought would be fun. We tell you a bit about National Novel Writing Month, about how we met, how we worked, and some other questions that listeners asked us. First off here is the link to NaNoWriMo- http://www.nanowrimo.org/. (Which has nothing to do with history except our own.)
Here is our solemn vow ( in print!): When we hit 1000 likes on facebook we will have a Tudors series.
Listen to the podcast for more info…but we know how much you like your visuals. And we get asked this question A LOT:
What do you look like?
Can’t we show you where we record instead, it’s so much more interesting…
This is where we sit when we talk. It might explain a lot.
Ok…we snapped some pics and this is our favorite image of us. Totally shows you who we are and what we look like:
Beckett wore cute shoes that day, Susan went for comfort. Actually, Beckett always wears cute shoes and Susan always goes for comfort. And we have the same size feet. True.
Oh! You want to know what our FACES look like! Got it…
Susan- action shot.
Yeah, we could do this all day.
Thank you for your encouragement, and emails and notes to us! Thank you for telling us who you would like to hear us discuss, and thank you for telling us where you listen to us. Thank you for clicking our stylish DONATE button, and for writing such wonderful reviews for us on iTunes. Thank you for listening! We are having a wonderful time and are very excited to come back to you very soon with Season Two!
Peace!

I should have used my "fairy pixie" shot. Maybe next season... Beckett
