Any resemblance to a boring history class is purely coincidental!

Oh sad! I’m sorry, Marie Antoinette, for any jokes I ever made about your person. Really, I feel totally guilty now (not as guilty as I would though if I owned one of the action figures. A bullet dodged!) I actually had a couple of comments I was going to make.. but I’m bummed about her son right now, so I need to go have some comfort food. Which reminds me, I loved the little ‘Let them eat cake!’ shout out at the end. That was very interesting, chicks, well done.
You made a great podcast that combined a great deal of detail and commentary but you may have over sympathisized with Marie. Whatever she did, she was the queen of a system of governance that treated the regular citizens of France like animals. She may have been defamed, mischaracterized but she was the top member of government that was manifestly unjust
Thank you, David! You make a very valid point, and we are delighted that you are comfortable enough to post it here! We LOVE that!!
I was at my ranch during the freeze and I stumbled upon your marie Antoinette on Itunes… It was great listening to it.. We dont have a tv at our ranch… just at our main home in the city.
I am a retired Art History Prof and Studio art… I also like to listen to podcasts or audio books in the car to and from the Ranch…
Great informal presentation and bringing it to a modern day genre.
I am glad you mentioned Elizabeth Vigee LeBrun her court painter…. Vigee LeBrun’s auto bio speaks of Marie…
A very good representation of her from her perspective….
Looking forward to more.. and If you need help with art history , let me know..
WOW! Thank you Yvonne! We might just take you up on your offer someday!
I found your podcast on Itunes. I really enjoyed the first episode and I’m looking forward to more. It’s really nice to listen to a podcast about women in history from the female perspective. Well done and good luck!
I LOVE YOUR PODCASTS!!!!!!!!!
One note on current royalty – Kate Middleton will not be “Princess Catherine.” As with any woman who marries into the British family without her own title, she will be known by her husband’s name – Princess William. Then any titles he has would transfer to her. Just like the fact that Princess Di was never Princess Diana – that was created by the media – not the monarchy.
Conceded. You have the right of it! (Similarly: Princess Michael of Kent, whose first name is actually Marie Christine… though she knocked her husband out of the line of succession because she is a Catholic!)
Unless – there is word about that Queen Elizabeth II may give William a title (odds are: The Duke of Sussex) upon his marriage. In which case, she would be the Duchess of Sussex. Hard to say out loud – try it!
Also – by marrying the eldest son of the eldest son of the Sovereign, Kate will be entitled to the style “Her Royal Highness” – so, officially, HRH the Duchess of Sussex.
But I will guarantee she will be “Princess Kate” in the common vernacular. Or Princess Catherine, not as captionworthy…
We did know this, maybe the heat of the moment drove it out of our minds. Thanks for the “catch!”
Been listening to some of your podcasts and love them. I wanted to hear the one that started it all, but the podcast does not seem to be working? Anyone else having this problem?
We had a technical issue with the audio on that particular episode, all of the others are working perfectly. We are hoping to have it corrected and back up soon (as soon as we finish the newest episode that we are working on). Hope it wasn’t a huge inconvenience!
